We host a series of one day open studio pop-up events throughout the year. Our one day events are an opportunity to view works by guest artists as well as looking at new mirrors and framed work in our studio. These events are usually every two months and take place on a Saturday. The displays will be on view, by appointment only, for the following week Monday to Friday.
Our pop-up on 21st October featured the work of Spitalfields based photographer Lucinda Douglas-Menzies alongside a selection of mid-nineteenth century, hand painted silk weavers patterns. Lucinda showed seven of her floral still life photographs from 2012 and 2023. The photographs are hand printed, silver gelatin, fibre-based bromides and they are presented in hand finished frames. Each photograph is in an edition of twelve, signed and dated on the reverse and on the mount. Lucinda is an accomplished portrait and fine art photographer - seventy-six of her portraits are in the collection of the National Portrait Gallery, London. She has also taken photographs for Dennis Severs' House on Folgate Street, most recently of the ceramic work by Simon Pettet.
The French silk weavers patterns have a direct relationship to the Spitalfields area as many of the characteristic Georgian houses were built by Huguenot weavers who settled here in the early 1700's. The patterns we hold were created by designers at the Lyon factory of André Donat between 1840 and 1880. On the reverse of the sheets are the instructions of how the pattern should be set up on the loom. All but one also have the exact date on which the design was made. These beautiful patterns are presented in double-sided, hand finished, box frames with conservation grade materials used throughout, including the glass. Click the link to find out more.
This Saturday pop-up has now finished. You can sign up to our newsletter for information on forthcoming events using the button below.
