oak shelf commission

Hand finished custom made oak shelf mirror with ceramics and glassware
Detail of custom made oak shelf mirror with ceramics and flowers
This mirror was commissioned for the guest bedroom in a London house. Having viewed our natural wood coloured shelf mirrors, the client requested a bespoke modified version.

The mirror was constructed to a specific size, with an oak veneer insert in the shelf. Our client also requested that the colour of the wood should be as close as possible to a vintage oak wardrobe in the bedroom.

To achieve the desired colour the oak was stained with a succession of washes in varying tints. The frame also required rubbing with wire wool between coats and finally tinted waxes were applied to achieve an aged effect.

As the wardrobe doors feature square joined panels, the top section of the mirror was designed to reflect this feature so we used lap joints rather than mitred corners.
