commission: octagon (4 blues) after Max Bill

A commission for a guest bedroom in a Clerkenwell flat. The bedroom has a vintage mahogany dresser and features various shades of blue in the fixtures and furniture.
A Maggi Hambling screen print, again with a vivid blue - Portrait of Derek Jarman - hangs on one wall.

The mirror was designed and made to our clients specifications. It now hangs over the dresser at the entrance to the room - the frame was custom stained to match the mahogany colour. The mirror design itself is inspired by the Swiss artist and designer Max Bill (1908 - 1994). We have referenced Bill with our Quadrant Mirrors, but this is the first time we have utilised an octagonal shape.

The mirror's four corner panels were individually hand painted using artist's acrylic. Each blue is slightly different in tone. These painted panels are secured in the frame with small screws, so they are detachable. If our client wishes to replace the blues with a different set of colours we can easily do so.

This unique mirror is signed and dated on the reverse. The mirror has integral split battens on all four sides so the mirror can be rotated and displayed in either a diamond or square orientation. The battens also ensure it hangs flush to the wall. Should you wish to have a mirror made to order based on this design use the button below to get in touch. This mirror can be made in different woods with any combination of colours on the panels.

We would be pleased to discuss your ideas and answer any questions.
