portrait of a girl (Ghirlandaio)

Picture
Picture
This unique mirror is constructed in hand painted beech wood with an outer frame in custom stained oak with corner pieces. The top section features three postcards framed behind museum grade glass of a portrait, c.1490, attributed to the workshop of Domenico Ghirlandaio. The postcards are a mirror image of the original portrait painting, which is in the collection of the National Gallery, London.

The coloured panels on either side of the portrait are reverse painted museum grade glass. This glass has both an anti-reflective coating plus a UV filter. This helps preserve both the cards and the paint from light damage. The paint colours are from the Farrow & Ball range.
Incarndine was used to make a feature of the frame rebate and edges, while Mahogany and Off-Black were utilised for the facing strips. The six glass panels are in Cinder Rose, Breakfast Room Green, India Yellow, Vardo, Drawing Room Blue and Pelt.

The mirror itself is 4mm thick silver float glass. The frame is backed with 3mm MDF and has an integral split batten for easy and secure flush mounting to the wall.
This mirror is stamped, signed and dated on the reverse.
